Job Opening: Software Architect

Soapstone Networks is developing software for carrier’s next-generation networks and is looking for a highly experienced, software engineers with proven team leadership talent who wishes to complete the transition to software architect. In this position you will work on Soapstone Networks PNC (Provider Network Controller). The prime responsibilities for the position will be to work under the direction of our Chief Architect and manage the following:

Responsibilities:

• Acquire a thorough knowledge of the product as currently architected
• Take responsibility for defining iterations as part of our Extreme Programming Methodology
• Work in a pair-programming environment with individual team members to bootstrap their skills set AND/OR to pinch hit on iteration completion
• Act as a contributing member of our release planning team
• Work closely with other architects with new iterations and additional features and functions
• Work closely with other departments to ensure that communications is disseminated quickly and accurately

Skills needed to work in this environment:

• MSEE/CS with 5+ years experience, BSEE/CS or equivalent and 7+ years in software engineering and development experience on a UNIX/Linux/Sun OS platform
• C++ and object oriented programming is a MUST
• TCP/IP, HTTP, network caches, in-memory databases, socket programming is a MUST
• Experience with Extreme/Agile Programming methodology is a STRONG PLUS
• Experience with System Design and Architecture is a MUST
• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers is a MUST
• Experience with distributed middleware principles, practices, and system (e.g., J2EE, CORBA) is a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
